Filling the Cracks with Gold
This 1-day workshop allows participants to experience powerful healing metaphors through the breaking, adorning, and rejoining with gold. Kintsugi, golden joinery, is an ancient Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery by filling the cracks with lacquer and gold dust. As a philosophy it represents honoring breaks and repairs as part of the history of an object. It is related to wabi-sabi which is the embracing of the flawed. Additionally there will be a ceremonial and community witness aspect throughout the day.

Wabi Sabi
Each participant will be supplied with all materials to go through the full process with a single bowl. Lunch will be on your own schedule, as you work on your creation. It is best not to leave the space – we have a mini fridge and microwave for your use. Cookies, snacks, water, tea provided.
This is an expressive workshop with no previous experience necessary and is open to anyone. Therapists can receive 6 CEs upon completion. Additional payment applies.

Key Terms
- Kintsugi, meaning “golden repair”
- The philosophy of wabi-sabi, which means “to find beauty in broken things or old things”
Give me someone who knows their own vulnerability and sees mine.
Give me someone whose cracked spaces are golden.
Give me someone who has helped do kintsugi to my cracked spaces.
Give me someone who is open to me doing kintsugi to their cracked heart.
So friends, wabi-sabi me.
Let me wabi-sabi you.
Let’s repair each other.
Let’s seek what’s cracked in each other.
Let’s heal our broken spaces.
Let’s fill what’s broken with gold.
May we emerge more beautiful, more whole, and luminous.
So, my love, come and see the beauty in my cracked spaces.
I see the beauty in yours.
You are not a heart that I will discard.
Do not discard me.
We can merge from this healing golden, more beautiful.
May all that is cracked and broken be healed
be illuminated.
