This workshop is designed for play therapy supervision, and meets the required 30 hours of supervisory training necessary to obtain the “S” in RPT-S.
We will discuss the complex nature of supervision, the various tasks & roles of a supervisor, supervision models, and how to mitigate risks inherent in providing supervision. There will be ample reflection and discussion around one’s identity as a supervisor.
A weekend of creativity & discovery
Care is given to address the unique aspects of being a play therapy supervisor, and there will be opportunity to practice expressive techniques for use in supervision.
Additionally participants will be given prompts and unstructured time to engage in self- reflection regarding their own work. For specifics, click above on the schedule and core content link.
We begin with an opening dessert session on Thursday evening and end after brunch on Sunday. Additionally there are a few pre-training readings and a final paper.
While the days are long, the schedule is broken into short topic-focused sessions with time to reflect and relax in between. You should feel full, and yet fully restored, upon leaving.

Clinical Supervision
- List developmental stages of supervision
- Assess different types and models of supervision
- Identify ways to mitigate risk in supervision
- Assess boundaries, dual relationships, transference, and cultural sensitivity within the context of clinical supervision
- Analyze issues related to evaluation in supervision and how to mitigate power imbalances
- Utilize creative interventions for enhancing supervision
- Devise a personal model of supervision and write a summation paper outlining your model
- Create playful exchanges and quiet moments of reflection with other play therapists
- Discuss forms, contracts, rates, goals setting,
- Assess issues related to theory issues, especially focusing on the issue of consistency with supervisor and supervisee model of supervision
- Identify developmental aspects of supervision

- Describe the role of a supervisor
- Create a visual representation of the supervisor you hope to be using collage
- Compare the difference between clinical and administrative supervisory roles.
- Identify the legal and ethical responsibilities of being a supervisor
- Use self-reflection and discussion to prepare for a new professional role
- Identify & apply self-care strategies for ethical, sustainable practice
- Develop professional networks and resources

Play Therapy Specific Supervision
- Identify aspects unique to play therapy specific supervision
- Utilize & explore your own play history, identify how it impacts your specific clinical practice
- Cite best practices in play therapy, including touch
- Analyze research & materials on APT website
- Prepare to help supervisees define themselves as play therapists and clarify their particular theoretical approach to play therapy
- Assess and practice expressive means within play therapy supervision
- Identify playful means of supervision as consistency between treatment and supervision model

The Agape Lodge provides 6 separate bedrooms for participants, with 2 shared bathroom and shower facilities. It has a spacious living room/dining room area and a full kitchen. The great room has numerous tables and chairs, along with several couches and a fireplace. It’s a perfect old fashioned going to summer camp style accommodation. Please look on-line at the facility.
Heather does all the cooking and focuses on quality vegetarian meals, though meat options are available.
Cost includes all materials, meals, lodging and 30 CEUs for supervision.
